Teatergangers kan gereedmaak vir skaterlag- én knop-in-die-keel-oomblikke in die splinternuwe musiekblyspel, Die Afrikaner maak só, wat in Oktober op die planke kom by AfriForum Teater in Pretoria.

In dié byderwetse musiekblyspel maak die gehoor kennis met die Van der Merwe-gesin wat as’t ware vasgevang is in 1994. Te midde van onsekere tye en politieke omwentelings besluit die Van der Merwes om nie, soos talle ander Afrikaners te emigreer nie, maar om eerder in ’n ondergrondse bunker te gaan bly. Dertig jaar later maak hulle, as die laaste oorblywende Afrikaners in Suid-Afrika, in telkens skreeusnaakse oomblikke, kennis met ’n Suid-Afrika wat heelwat anders lyk as hoe hulle dit onthou.

Topgehalte toneelspel, skerp dialoog en ’n storielyn wat eienaardig en tog bekend klink, beloof om ’n goedvoel-ervaring soos min te bied en teatergangers te herinner aan wie die Afrikaner werklik is. Dié komiese en hartroerende storie, onvergeetlike musiek en kostelike karakters sal gehore die een oomblik laat skaterlag en die volgende weer diep laat dink.

Die Afrikaner maak só-musiekblyspel is vervaardig deur Inhoud Huis Musiek vir AfriForum Teater en geskryf deur die leiers in Afrikaanse musiekteater, Johan Vorster, Jacomien de Wet en Jannes Erasmus.

Die musiekblyspel se sterbelaaide rolverdeling bevat boonop die room van Afrikaanse sang- en teatertalent, en bestaan uit die geliefde sangeres Bernice West; die gesoute operasanger en akteur Rouel Beukes; Nadia Beukes op wie se kerfstok daar al dosyne televisie-, teater- en filmproduksies is; Dihan Keün wat onlangs ook in Die Kaplyn te siene was; Revan Luüs; en medeskrywer en regisseur van Die Afrikaner maak só, Jannes Erasmus.

West en Bok van Blerk se gewilde liedjie, “Die Afrikaner maak so”, is die temalied van dié musiekblyspel en vorm deel van ’n opwindende reeks oorspronklike musiek wat spesiaal vir die blyspel geskryf is.

“Dit is ’n voorreg om terug te wees met ’n derde musiekblyspel. AfriForum Teater het oor die afgelope drie jaar ons huis geword waar ons óns mense se stories kan vertel – eers met Die Gelofte in 2022, toe met Die Kaplyn in 2023 en 2024 en nou ook met Die Afrikaner maak só!” verduidelik Erasmus. “Met Die Afrikaner maak só gaan ons meer lag as in die ander twee, maar daar sal altyd ’n knop-in-die-keel-oomblik wees. Mense kan beslis uitsien na ’n musiekblyspel wat voel of dit in hul eie sitkamer afspeel,” vertel Erasmus.

“Die Afrikaner maak so-musiekblyspel is ’n profesie en ’n stuk van hoop. Dit gaan nie noodwendig oor wie die Afrikaner wás nie. Dit ook, maar dit gaan veel eerder oor wie hy gaan word. Dis weer tyd om te glo!” voeg Vorster by.

Volgens Kallie Kriel, uitvoerende hoof van AfriForum, bou die Afrikaner maak só-musiekblyspel voort op die sukses van Die Gelofte- en Die Kaplyn-musiekblyspele wat AfriForum ook in samewerking Inhoud Huis Musiek by AfriForum Teater op die planke gebring het. “Dié nuwe musiekblyspel bly ook in pas met AfriForum se strewe om deur die kunste, met Afrikaners se geskiedenis as agtergrond, hoop vir die toekoms te help skep. Die talentvolle akteurs en kunstenaars wat by die produksie betrek is, asook die gebruik van humor in die musiekblyspel, beloof om oud en jonk te inspireer en te vermaak,” meen Kriel.

In 2023 we had an average of 800 visitors per night who spend 2-3 hours looking at the most beautiful Christmas Lights in Gauteng.
